Republic Services, Inc. – Engineering and Compliance Services for Newton County LFG Pipeline at Newton County Landfill
Innovative renewable energy business park uses processed landfill gas for all its energy needs
Cornerstone is providing engineering design and compliance services for a medium-BTU landfill gas utilization project at Republic Services’ Newton County Landfill, in Morocco, Indiana. The LFG Processing Facility, designed and constructed by CPL Systems, Inc., can deliver 2,000 scfm (expandable to 8,000 scfm) to the adjacent Renewable Energy Park. The initial client is Urban Forest Recyclers, which uses the processed landfill gas (LFG) to manufacture products from 100 percent recycled paper stock. Energy from the landfill is expected to support the business park’s energy needs as it grows.
The project received the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2010 Project of the Year Award as part of EPA’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP).
Cornerstone provided engineering services, including preparation of the LFG collection and control system (GCCS) construction plans, design of interconnecting LFG piping and controls, design of the transmission pipeline to the end-user, assistance with air permitting and compliance issues and construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring. Compliance services included development of a DOT safety and compliance program, training for pipeline employees, annual pipeline inspections, and regulatory reporting.
