Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District – Biogas Energy Recovery System for Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District Wastewater Treatment Facility
Innovative project provides biogas for on-site combined heat and power generation and transportation fuel use
Cornerstone provided design, grant submittal and management services to the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District (LGVSD) wastewater treatment plant, located in San Rafael, California, for the Biogas Energy Recovery System (BERS) facility. Cornerstone will also be providing construction management (CM) assistance/construction quality assurance (CQA).
Cornerstone designed the pre-commercial BERS to recover 100 percent of the methane produced from anaerobic digestion of wastewater sludge and condition it for on-site combined heat and power (CHP) generation and transportation fuel use.
System design includes the integration of a BioCNG™ gas conditioning system, microturbines, hydronic boiler, and BioCNG fueling station.
Cornerstone also assisted in preparing several grant applications, which have thusfar yielded nearly $1 million in funding from the California Energy Commission and sales tax exclusion funding from the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority.
Cornerstone will provide CM assistance/CQA services during construction, coordinating special inspections, managing construction schedule, submittal and RFI review, and overseeing construction activities to ensure installation is in general accordance with design drawings.
