Cornerstone a Finalist for the ABC 2018 Project of the Year Award!
Cornerstone is proud to have been selected as one of eight finalists in the prestigious American Biogas Council’s 2018 ABC Project of the Year award for our Biogas Energy Recovery System (BERS) project at the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District (LGVSD) wastewater treatment plant in San Rafael, California.
Led by project manager Jessica Bernardini, Cornerstone met the District’s challenging request to prepare a design that would recover 100 percent of the methane produced from anaerobic digestion of wastewater sludge and condition it for on-site combined heat and power (CHP) generation and transportation fuel use.
The system design integrates a BioCNG™ gas conditioning system, microturbines, hydronic boiler, and renewable natural gas fueling station. Achieving 100 percent utilization of the conditioned digester gas, the system generates power for the treatment plant and serves as a heating source for digester sludge.
The District received state funding support for the BERS project, including $999,000 from the California Energy Commission and financing from the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority.
Congratulations to all the finalists and winners of the ABC 2018 Project of the Year Award.
